In the last week or two I have been cold-called by at least two companies attempting to interest me in carbon futures trading. One of them, I forget which, offered to send me a brochure to explain what was to me, a not inexperienced stock market investor, a totally unknown commodity.

What I would like to know is whether carbon trading is another scam - why me; cold-calling, etc - or whether it is something the prudent investor might at some time find profitable.

Any help would be appreciated before I continue to hang-up on them.

Might want to read http://www.fsa.gov.uk/Pa...rbon_credit/index.shtml

starts
"Carbon credits can be sold and traded legitimately and there are many reputable firms operating in the sector.

However, we are concerned that an increasing number of firms are using dubious, high-pressure sales tactics and targeting vulnerable consumers."

My grateful thanks to Clive B and the very useful link to the fsa site.

Much as I expected - back to caveat emptor and hang up immediately. BJL

carbon trading as a platform has had a lot of problems. The EU ETS platform was hit for 5billion worth of VAT fraud and they had to shut the platform down.

In the US the chicago platform crashed and i believe was closed.

I have beencold called to but the company seemed to check out, however i didn't like their high pressure style.

Apart from all that, I personally don't subscribe to the view that man made co2 emmisions are responsible for global warming so in my view the whole thing is a scam/mistake created by scaremongering scientists and gullible/dishonest politicians jumping on the green bandwagon... not least Obama.

As the financial situation starts to worsten i dont think carbon trading will be high on the agenda and the price of carbon credits could crash

When someone tries to sell you the exhalation products of the planet, - literally selling you not so fresh air, be afraid.

the whole idea sounds good, its just another clever robber baron govt tax, with no benefits ot anyone

I buy or sell "carbon credits" ??

What a load of bo*****s

AND an ideal scam for the fraudsters - I have had loads of phone calls and email on this most ephemiral of subjects

Carbon Credits will go the way of the Poll Tax - an idea of one of those committees in dark non-smoked filled rooms that will fade away

Next time you want to buy into Carbon Credits, legit or rip-off, read again the Tulip Bubble in Holland, then read it again!!!!

The Beatles gave you a clue - "Nothing is Real........"

except of course Gold which the hidden masters keep trying to diss, but in the end thats all there will be

No to Carbon

Just to say "Me too". I have been cold-called. I think that a minimum investment of £10,000 was required. I don't have that spare and my gut feel was to avoid, so I followed my instincts and avoided. It was an easy decision. The way I was spoken to also put me off, though it is difficult to be specific about what it was that bothered me.

I dont think it is even legal TO COLD CALL ABOUT INVESTING.

iF you are thinking about carbon credits Google the tulipmania

I think the best thing is as follows:

any UNKNOWN or BLOCKED CALLERS DONT ANSWER THE PHONE

if you do and a conversation starts on investing, just hang up. dont be polite just hang up whywoul dyou want to invest with a stranger cold calling you when you can go to say HL or any broker and buy what youwant.

How do I get rid of the dratted cold caller on carbon credits. I tried putting the phone down. I tried listening whilst reading CityWire - he's still there and says another call will be automatically generated each day or week. I am at my wits end. Do I blow a whistle down the phone, or what please ? Any ideas welcome.

I have also had many companies cold calling me and wanting me to invest in their project.I declined .But I got persuaded by a firm in Switzerland called GLOBALASSETTRADERS into buying some shares into a wellknown company. The shares they sold me at below market value.I lost sight of track and inested a small amount. One month on,the share price have gone up and I wanted them to sell the shares and take the profit. But they say,I cant do that ,and that I have to wait 3 months.I realise now that I have been scammed.Has anyone heard of Global Asset Traders in Zurich,if so please,I would like to hear from you.

This will become a big topic in the coming years I feel. The research I and my team have done shows that Carbon Credit scams are big in the Middle East.

I have written an article here about it http://www.iexpats.com/2...cams-investors-warning/

Some of the firms promoting it are excellent at marketing, and appear completely legit and above board. Be very careful.

www.investor-rescue.org posted earlier on Land Banking scams. We are now part way through our research and can see very clear evidence that the fraudsters escalate from the Land Banking scams into Carbon Trading. We are continuing to research this area and will attempt to post regular bulletins. In the meantime, Anyone with information, on either of these two linked scams, is welcome to contact us via the website.
