Many websites will allow you to receive email alerts when other users leave comments on articles and forum discussions that you're following. We thought it was such a good idea we stole it.

Here's how it works: when you start a new forum post, comment on an existing one, or comment on a Citywire article, you'll be presented with an option to receive email alerts which is ticked by default. After that, you're 'subscribed' to the discussion.

You can also subscribe without commenting by clicking the 'Email me when someone replies to this discussion' link.

If you don't want to subscribe, simply uncheck the box before posting a comment. If, having subscribed, you change your mind, there is an unsubscribe link in every email we send out.

You can manage your subscriptions via the Watchlist, which is your personalised news service. As well as comment alerts, you can add shares, funds, investment trusts and fund managers, and receive email alerts whenever Citywire publishes an article featuring them. (Handily, it synchronises with the Portfolio service.) You can access the Watchlist at

We hope you find the service useful, and naturally we'd be interested in your feedback. As ever if you have any technical problems or queries, drop an email to our customer service team at If you're unable to receive the alerts you may need to add to your safe senders list.

`Great idea I am delighted.
It always seems a shame when you comment and lose the thread
