Bought a hundred shares in Snap Inc yesterday at $24.48, up over 10% today to £26.90. Shame I couldn't buy at the IPO of $17.00, however I only bought because my daughter uses this app all the time as do her friends.
To be honest I would be happy to cash in on a 40% profit in the next few weeks as this is a product I would never use myself. And I really cant see myself wearing sunglasses with a micro camera/video attachment.
However I wonder if Fundsmith, or ITs such as Manchester and London will be buying? And my fellow esteemed forum members, has anyone else been tempted to buy?

High price, not profitable?

A step too far for now.

If Fundsmith buys it I'll donate £1m to the Scottish Nationalist Party.

I'd sell on a 40% profit tbh .. I think the real upside will be quite a few years down the line, and that makes it a gamble (vs a certainty you can bank now).

Not my usual response – you could always sell half for a both-ways bet.

I would never, ever, consider investing in any 'social network' company on the grounds that they are absolutely at the mercy of fashionable whim, and fashion is fickle. They are generational. Where is Friends Reunited now? If you're a cool dude 15yo, how long would you want to stay on a site where your mum wants to 'friend' you? (Goodnight Facebook!). The driver is advertising revenues; the advertisers will follow the numbers; the next generation will always reject whatever their parents/older siblings did and go for something new. It's ephemeral. Take the money and run.

IMHO.

What Jeffian said. Totally agree.

My kids use this crud and I see what it does to them anxiety, jealousy, insecurity and the attention span of a gnat; so not like me 🙃.

I'm sure social media is reprogramming their brains.

Yet, they don't pay cash for these apps, bless them.

If I see another selfie by my sons girlfriend (on the duchesses phone obviously) - why do they think that anyone else gives a shirt.

As Pete Townsend said, hope I die before I get old. He must have known about Snapchat.

How can these businesses float/be valued at billions, given they burn money.

Is it down to the cost of money and the chance of success?

Am I a Luddite or is a major correction on the way.
